SOUNDS LIKE A REVOLUTION
“If a guitar’s all you got, a guitar’s what you fight with.” – Steve Earle

Sounds Like a Revolution is the remarkable story of how some of the most political musicians of our time fight the forces of censorship and overcome the odds through one simple philosophy: do-it-yourself (DIY). With unprecedented access, the film follows the careers of several successful independent artists in hiphop, punk and pop-fusion to reveal how their DIY solutions are not only revolutionizing the music industry, but also changing the face of politics.

With exclusive footage, the film follows Michael Franti from Bagdad to San Francisco as he challenges corporate media with his radical message, PEACE.  From apathy to activism we profile NOFX lead singer Fat Mike as he converts his traditionally apathetic fan base into the first punkrock lobby force. From the concert mosh pit to Congress, the film follows Anti-Flag as they take on the US Army’s predatory recruitment practices.

This feature film explores how corporate consolidation in the music industry has made it virtually impossible for political musicians to be heard in the mainstream. Through the personal experiences of its key artists, the film paints an intimate portrait of the motivations and struggles artists face in this post-9/11 environment where dissent is silenced and media outlets either ignore or self-censor material before it’s released. Undeterred, the musicians profiled in this film not only take on the music industry but are out to change the world as well.

Live performances, political rallies, music videos and uncensored commentary from some of the most outspoken icons in the business, such as The Dixie Chicks, Steve Earle, Jello Biafra, Ani Difranco, Chuck D and more. Sounds Like a Revolution is your back stage pass to the DIY revolution. It’s an unprecedented state of affairs – one that’s driven by new technology, where political artists sidelined by the commercial music industry and the mainstream media overcome the odds and find innovative ways of, not only reaching their audience, but engaging and mobilizing it.

No ordinary music doc, this inspiring rockumentary draws on the power of music and insights of artists to help us understand our world and find the courage to speak out about issues that concern us all. With themes that explore the role of artists in society, war and peace, freedom of expression, citizenship and democratic participation, Sounds Like a Revolution tells a universal story of how we are all politicized by the increasingly dangerous world in which we live and begs the question: What are we going to do about it?

During the upcoming 2008 election, this film will be more topical than ever: topical, controversial and popular - Sounds Like a Revolution.
