50. Why does this number strike fear into the hearts of women?

Twenty-five years ago, Judy Holm was a high fashion model. A member of an elite class of “genetically privileged” women, born with the sort of grace and beauty that can be exchanged for wealth and power. But what happens to that power as a woman ages? Does a woman lose her place in society with age? What is today’s image of a 50+-year-old woman?

With the wisdom of experience, and hindsight, a group of top fashion models from the 60’s and 70’s gather to test their theories about beauty, power, age, menopause, gray hair and the media in WRINKLE, a feature length documentary from Real to Reel Productions.

“On the brink of that most noted of birthdays I decided to give myself a present”, says Judy Holm, the subject and guiding force of this personal point of view documentary.

“Having been one of the few models in the past who would reveal her age, I now found myself reluctant to share that information. So, I decided to come clean. And in the process, I decided to find out how colleagues from my old modeling days were dealing with the many issues that have come up for me.”

Judy invited some of the most famous haute couture models from her youth: Donna deMarco, Jane Fellowes, Yanka Vanderkolk, Jean Macdonald, Enid Rose and Monica Chevalier to participate in what came to be known as “The Wrinkle Summit”.

At the exclusive Hillcrest Spa, luxe designer Wayne Clark brought a jeep full of ball gowns, makeup and hair specialist Alex Borovoy came to transform, ex-fashion show producer

Alayne Kato came to put everyone through their paces, and photographer Jacques Laurent came to record it all. The stage was set.

What would these women discover? Is there hope after 50? Where are the role models?

How far will the 50 something baby boomers push the boundaries and re-draw  society’s road map for aging?

Judy’s personal investigation also leads her to society hairdresser Robert Gage and Elite Model Management executive Elmer Olsen. She explores the remedies and maintenance techniques of the rich and famous with biological age testing, secret unguents and potions and a consultation with one of Toronto’s most sought-after cosmetic surgeons.

“Wrinkle” was produced for Real to Reel Productions by Anne Pick (“Firehall”, “Life and Times of Buzz Hargrove”, “The Bunny Years”) and Michael McNamara (“”Life and Times of Robert Munsch”, “Holly Cole: My Foolish Heart”, “The Cockroach That Ate Cincinnati”), in association with Judy Holm.  Anne Pick is Executive Producer and Michael McNamara is the director, editor and co-writer. WRINKLE comes from an original idea by Judy Holm. Original music is by Kurt Swinghammer, with vocals by Fides Krucker and additional music by Aaron Holm.

WRINKLE was produced with funding from CBC Newsworld’s “Rough Cuts”, the Canadian Television Fund and Telefilm Canada.

Judy Holm is available for interviews with the media.
